A team of researchers from the University of St Andrews working on peatland restoration in Scotland have just launched their new project website. The team – which includes CEE members Dr Cornelia Helmcke, Dr Lydia Cole, and Dr Shona Russell – have been carrying out research in crofting communities in the isle of Lewis, with the goal of understanding what some of the barriers are to restoring peatland ecosystems on the island.

In conversation with members of various communities and organisations, the project team identified a number of pressing questions that people have about how peatland restoration works, what the benefits of it are for them, and how they might fund restoration work over time. This website has been created through these conversations and the insights provided by these interviews.

You can read more about the finding of this project in their recently published correspondence piece in Nature 623, 483 (2023).
