Biography

Zak Gainey is a MSc Global Sustainable development student.  His current research focuses on the role of nuclear energy, specifically new Small Modular Reactor technology, in the decarbonisation of urban centres in the Global North. Zak’s background in modern history equips his work with an understanding of how the technologies controversial past informs its possible energy futures. Such research calls into question issues of ownership and access in the pursuit of a just energy transition. Outside of academia Zak has worked with a variety of NGO’s tackling issues from immigration rights and education in the Global South. He is also a keen apiarist.
