The Ladislav Holy Memorial Trust has announced Centre Researcher Lorenzo Sapochetti as joint-winner of this year’s David Riches Medal for Postgraduate Research.

The David Riches Medal for Postgraduate Research is awarded on a competitive basis each year to one postgraduate post-fieldwork student in the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of St Andrews. Applicants are asked to submit an article length piece of work (8,000-10,000 words) based on a chapter from their thesis.

Lorenzo’s submission – “Energy Prosumers and the Market: the Ethics of Electricity Self-Generation in an Italian Energy Cooperative” – forms part of his PhD work which covers the wider topics of energy transition, ‘prosumerism’ and ethical consumerism, community activism, and social entrepreneurship.

Lorenzo award represents the third consecutive year in which a member of the Centre for Energy Ethics has won the David Riches Medal; Sarah O’Brien was jointly awarded the medal in 2022 and Anna Seeger (Rauter) winning in 2021. Winners of the David Riches Medal present their research at the Department of Social Anthropology Research Seminars in Semester Two.
