Earlier this month, Dr Cornelia Helmcke joined the Centre for Energy Ethics in her new position as Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Energy Ethics.
In her PhD research, Dr Helmcke studied the multiple justice dimensions intrinsic to renewable energy development, focusing on large dam projects and community resistance in Colombia. Recently, she moved her research attention to the just transition and community ownership in remote Scotland. During the 12-month fellowship, Dr Helmcke will explore contradictions inherent to net zero strategies and how they play out in the Outer Hebrides.
Cornelia’s work will feature in a number of upcoming events, including an Energy Café on 3rd October and book launch in November. These activities will focus on her findings on the just transition and community involvement so far.
Cornelia is the second recipient of this Fellowship, which was launched in 2021 with support from our donors.
