The CEE is thrilled to welcome visiting scholar and artist Neil Gordon Davey.

Neil is a photographer and doctoral researcher currently in his final year of a PhD in Innovation for Sustainability at OsloMet University. With a focus on Scottish islands, Neil’s research examines how rural communities perceive and respond to the changing aesthetics of their environment through their visual interactions with energy infrastructure. From kitchen windows to countryside walks, he gathers personal, everyday experiences to understand how identity, memory, and place shape local attitudes toward energy development. His work highlights how these often-overlooked perspectives can inform more inclusive, empathetic, and ultimately, just energy transitions.

While with us at the CEE, Neil hopes to immerse himself in the academic environment in and around the Centre and the wider University of St Andrews. He will also use this time to puts the finishing touches to his PhD by publication. Neil is actively engaged in the Energy-in-Motion conference, exhibiting some of his PhD photography in-person and via the digital booths. If you are interested in discussing his work, Neil will be available for coffee and stimulating discussions with fellow energy researchers throughout June.
