Are you a researcher working in the fields of Energy, Sustainability and/or Climate Change? The Centre for Energy Ethics would love to host you for a British Academy Doctoral Fellowship.  


The British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships is a three-year award made to an annual cohort of outstanding early-career researchers in the humanities or social sciences. The application deadline for the 2026 call for these Fellowships is 30 September 2026 (17:00 GMT).

The CEE is organising a pre-selection based on expressions of interest. Please send your expression of interest to [email protected]The deadline for the CEE submission is 3 July 2026.  

How To Apply

We are inviting expression of interest which should contain the following: 

  • Identification of potential mentor (if not the CEE Director) 
  • a list of publications following the usual “published; accepted; submitted; in progress” format.

We will notify you of the outcome by 17 July 2026. The selected candidate will then be put forward for internal review.

Eligibility 

The applicant must be a researcher from the humanities and social sciences and be based at an eligible university or research organisation for the duration of the Fellowship. Suitable institutions include any UK university or recognised research organisations based in the UK. British citizens and any nationals from the EEA are eligible, regardless of where their doctorate was obtained. Anyone of any nationality who has a doctorate from a UK university is eligible. If an applicant does not meet the prior categories, they may be accepted if they can demonstrate ‘strong prior association’ with the UK academic community.

Eligible applicants are expected to be at an early stage of their career. Applicants are expected to have completed their Viva Voce examination between 1st April 2024 to 1st April 2027.

The applicant must already be of postdoctoral status at the time when the Research Awards Committee meets.
