Joan Sullivan is a Canadian multimedia artist/photographer who has focused on climate change for the past two decades.
After documenting Canada’s energy transition for 10 years, she began to sense that technological innovation alone is not sufficient for energy transition. What is missing, in her opinion, is a focus on the human transition: what does it mean for our species to lead such energy intensive lives, and how can artists contribute to breaking the chains of our fossilized ways of thinking.
Oscillating between representation and abstraction, Joan’s new photographs invite viewers to “see” the energy transition – and their role in speeding up the energy transition – in new ways.
