The Tabula Project

The Centre for Energy Ethics and Greener Vision are partnering on an exhibition of The Tabula Project, with a series of events and activities to explore innovative approaches to addressing anthropogenic climate change.

This partnership will see three online roundtable discussions, an in-person art exhibition at the St Andrews Botanic Garden featuring artist and Greener Vision founder and CEO Claire Haigh, a virtual gallery supported by Curat10 and the opportunity for students at the University of St Andrews to engage with Socratic dialogues.

Art Exhibition

13 – 17 October, St Andrews Botanic Garden

The Tabula Project is a 30-year creative endeavour that started with the assumption that we won’t solve our most intractable problems with the same thinking that created them.  The paintings depict states of consciousness and thought, and fundamental questions of existence are explored in the workshops and events.

The paintings are grouped under three main sections.  Examining Thought seeks to explore current predominant thought forms. Clearing the Mind is about achieving a state of consciousness without thought. Building a New Framework is about discovering a new integrated framework for thought where the whole mind is in balance.

The paintings will be on display in ‘The Boiler Room’ at St Andrews Botanic Garden, Canongate, St Andrews, Fife KY16 8RT.   Opening Hours – 12pm-4pm.  The Botanic Garden is easily accessible by road, bicycle and foot.  The Visitor Centre, car park and bike racks are on Canongate KY16 8RT.

The paintings can also be viewed at on online gallery hosted by the Centre for Energy Ethics throughout Autumn 2025 (see below).

Roundtable Discussions

10am – 12pm, 14 – 16 October 2025
Online only

This series focuses on one of the most urgent profound challenges facing humanity today. As energy systems change, so will energy politics, economics and social life. What kind of world do we envision for ourselves and for others? How do we balance our energy demands with our concerns for anthropogenic climate change?

The UK has a strong track record on tackling climate change, and its commitment to an enhanced emissions reduction of 81% by 2035 was a welcome demonstration of UK climate leadership. However, the world must deliver drastic emissions reductions in the context of a growing populist backlash against climate policies. UK leadership and commitment to net zero is more critical than ever.

We urgently need an informed, evidence-based and balanced public debate. Experts and leading figures from across the political spectrum have been invited to make keynote contributions to the roundtable discussions. The events will be recorded, and the key conclusions will inform a report to be published later this year.

Socratic Dialogues

2:30 – 4pm, 14 – 16 October
St Andrews Botanic Garden

Our thinking needs to evolve if we are to rise to the scale of the climate crisis.  A series of Socratic dialogues held in the exhibition venue at St Andrews Botanic Garden will explore how we might embrace holistic thinking and develop a response to the climate crisis that creates unity rather than division.

The Tabula Project: A Blueprint for Change calls for new thinking and a transformation of our relationship with the environment on which we depend.  We are wired to focus on immediate self-interest, but the result is a lack of systemic wisdom.  We need to think and act in a global long-term context.  Such a realignment would be profoundly transformative for businesses, governments and across all parts of society.

By examining our current thought patterns and clearing away the main obstructions to progress we can begin the work of building a new paradigm.  The series of Socratic Dialogues corresponds to the three parts of The Tabula Project: Examining Thought, Clearing the Mind and Building a New Framework.

No pre-booking is needed.  The Socratic dialogues will take place at the exhibition venue in ‘The Boiler Room’ at St Andrews Botanic Garden, Canongate, St Andrews, Fife KY16 8RT
