Biography

Eric Poettschacher has 30+ years of experience in planning and implementing culture-led innovation projects for organisations, cities and regions. With his professional background in cultural management and systemic organisational development, he usually works as an independent social design expert and facilitates decision-making processes involving diverse stakeholder groups.

In 2013, he co-founded Energies United, a mission-driven organisation working at the nexus of placemaking-energy-sensemaking. For several years, he and his partner, Christina Rappich, have been conducting field research on all continents, mostly off the beaten path, to explore tools and methods that emphasize the critical role of perception and sensemaking in the area of energy transitions.

Energies United collaborates with partners from a wide range of creative and scientific disciplines. The two main projects currently underway are Energy-in-Place, a framework for culture-led energy transitions, and Energy Sensorium, a social innovation festival for energy communities.

Eric is a passionate world-builder and boundary spanner who likes to connect disciplines, sectors, and cultures in novel ways that permit unexpected solutions to emerge. He draws upon knowledge fields such as complex adaptive systems, social ecology, large-group facilitation, aeronautics, and Daoism.
