The University of St Andrews and the National Centre for Atmospheric Science have two exciting PhD projects open for applications in the field of climate Science. Follow the links below for more information on each project. Applications close: 24 January 2025.

Compound Extreme Events in a Warming World: From Drivers to Impacts

Connecting Weather and Climate: Exploring Cross-Scale Interactions

The student will join the University of St Andrews’s newly formed partnership with the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) – the “Theory, Observations and Modelling of the Atmosphere and Climate” (TOMAC) group – which is a collaboration between the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences. The student will gain experience in analysing global climate model data and in developing and applying ML algorithms. The student will also develop expertise in understanding and investigating the mechanisms of climate dynamics. The student will receive support to attend
conferences to disseminate findings to the national and international scientific communities and will be able to visit research collaborators within the UK. The student will be encouraged to participate in relevant summer schools, where appropriate.
