Scotland’s National Academy has three open grant calls for researchers based in Scotland. Find out more below.
RSE Small Research Grants
RSE Small Research Grants fund high‑quality, researcher‑led projects by covering eligible costs for defined studies and encouraging academic innovation. They are open to Principal Investigators in Scotland across all disciplines and career stages, and can support preliminary work leading to larger future research bids.
Applications close 12pm 8 April 2026.
RSE International Joint Projects
The RSE International Joint Projects programme funds two‑year collaborations between researchers based in Scotland and partners overseas, offering £3,000–£12,000 with matched funding from the collaborating institution. It supports bilateral projects across all academic disciplines and provides two application streams: open partnerships or collaborations with Sister Academies holding a Memorandum of Understanding with the RSE.
Stream 1 Open Partnerships closes 12pm 8 April 2026.
RSE Research Collaboration Grants
RSE Research Collaboration Grants support interdisciplinary and cross‑institutional partnerships to advance exploration of significant research topics, replacing the former RSE Research Workshops and Research Networks schemes. They are open to Scotland‑based Principal Investigators across all disciplines and career stages, allowing joint applications and international collaborators where appropriate.
Applications close 12pm 8 April 2026.
