Dr Andrew King is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to work in the area of climate change projections under net zero emissions and overshoot. As the world rapidly approaches the 1.5C global warming level, the urgent need for humanity to decarbonise and achieve net zero emissions has never been clearer. This project seeks to inform policymakers of the consequences of delay in reaching net zero emissions for the climate and what we should expect under net zero or net negative emissions pathways.
There are many potential topics the student could choose to work on, but a specific area of interest is changing Australian hydroclimate extremes under net zero and net negative emissions pathways.
This PhD position is fully funded through an ARC Future Fellowship commencing in mid-2025. The student will have the opportunity to work with other experts at the University of Melbourne, Australian partner organisations within the The ARC Centre of Excellence for 21st Century Weather, and international collaborators.
Interested candidates with a background in climate science or in a related field should email Dr King ([email protected]) by 23rd May 2025 with a brief Expression of Interest (no more than one page), CV (no more than two pages), academic transcripts and contact details of up to three referees.
Note, there will be an interview process in late May and the successful candidate will be guided through the official University application process thereafter.
