Call for applications: Professorship in Social Anthropology, at the Institute for Social Anthropology, University of Bern. Date of appointment: February 1st, 2024.

The future holder of the professorship will have a research focus on economic anthropology and will represent the discipline in its entirety in teaching.

The appointment is open rank (assistant professorship with tenure track, associate professorship or full professorship according to qualifications). In the case of a full or associate professorship, a habilitation or proof of an equivalent scientific qualification is required. In the case of an assistant professorship tenure track an advanced habilitation project or an equivalent qualification is required.

The future incumbent contributes to teaching in the Bachelor’s program in Social Anthropology, and in the Master’s programs MASA (Master Social Anthropology), ATS (Anthropology of Transnationalism and the State), and CREOLE (Cultural Differences and Transnational Processes). Languages of instruction are German and English.

Participation in academic self-governance as co-director of the Institute of Social Anthropology is expected. The administrative language is German. Appropriate proficiency in German is required after two years at the
latest. Willingness to solicit research funding is also expected.
