Biography
Léa Weimann is a PhD Candidate in Law at the University of Cambridge. Her academic foundation includes a Master of Law (LL.M) in Global Environment and Climate Change Law from the University of Edinburgh and a MA (Honours, 1st Class) in International Relations & Sustainable Development from the University of St Andrews. In St Andrews, Léa was the inaugural student advisor to the University of St Andrews’ executive Environmental Sustainability Board (ESB) and was also the elected Environment Officer of the Students’ Association 2020-21. In 2021, Léa received the University of St Andrews Principal’s Medal for her community service, climate activism, and academic achievements.
Léa is a passionate eco-activist who has organised environmental campaigns in South Africa, Germany, and the UK. She runs her own blog and podcast “Eco-Activist Journeys”. With over five years of experience in hosting and running radio shows and podcasts, Léa is a versatile advocate for her cause. Her creative side shines through in her poetry book, “Dear Earth,” which merges art and environmental activism. Léa is involved in various national and international environmental initiatives and co-leads the Youth for Ecocide Law branch of Stop Ecocide International. Furthermore, she is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law and a European Climate Pact Ambassador.
In addition, she is passionate about human and planetary health and has also published several academic articles and co-authored a book on sustainable governance in health care systems. As a UN delegate, she has represented the voices of youth at significant UN Conferences, including Stockholm+50, COP27, COP28, and the UNFCCC SB58 Conference.
