Biography
Catarina is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon and NOVA University Lisbon, through a joint programme, and is affiliated with the Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA).
Her doctoral research explores the energy transition in Europe through the implementation of offshore wind energy projects. She investigates how communities’ experiences, negotiations, and transformations are shaped within this context. Catarina’s academic interests lie at the intersection of anthropology, political ecology, and science and technology studies.
Catarina holds an MA in Applied Cultural Analysis from Lund University, Sweden, where she conducted fieldwork in Nkhata Bay, Malawi, to explore energy access.
Since 2019, Catarina has been a member of the Advisory Committee on Protection of the Sea (ACOPS), an NGO focused on the sustainable use of the seas through sound science and the Law of the Sea. Her involvement with ACOPS has deepened her knowledge and interest in ocean affairs and research.
