A number of new, large projects have increased the need for researchers in the north. Nordland Research Institute now has several positions available. Deadline: 31 January 2023.

NRI have recently been granted several large projects on topics such as ocean management, blue-green economy, processes of change in coastal communities, climate and biodiversity challenges, and the development of institutional frameworks and management of the seas. Therefore, they are looking new colleagues with a background in the broad field of Blue Governance. Relevant research topics for this position include but are not limited to empowerment strategies for coastal communities, co-production processes, STS approaches You will work with coastal communities across the EU to co-develop sustainable futures using methods and approaches such as

  • Nature-based solutions to climate change
  • Social innovation processes
  • Living Laboratory and co-creation methods
  • Future scenario workshops
  • Ocean literacy activities

The right candidate will be included in our research teams in large EU projects such as EmpowerUS and Prep4Blue, but will also be expected to participate in other projects and in project initiation activities at the institute.

Experience from applied research, interdisciplinary collaboration, project work and field work will be emphasized. You must be proactive and creative with the ability to both lead and participate in initiation processes and project work. We are looking for a candidate that desires to/You must desire to participate in and further develop social science practice and theory development. It is preferable that you are familiar with both quantitative and qualitative research methodology.

You must have good collaboration skills, but also an independent ‘drive’; a desire to make a difference and to influence developments in this era of rapid change. If you have a background in disciplines such as community planning, political science, environmental sociology, nature management, social anthropology, social geography, sociology, economics/circular economy or other relevant disciplines that you think could fit into our focus areas and project portfolio – we encourage you to apply.

For this position we are looking for a person with a PhD. It is ideal, but not necessary, if you are fluent in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and excellent English oral and writing skills, is a must.
