This summer, together with the University of St Andrews’ Music Centre, we have invited composers to propose a piece of music inspired by the works exhibited in the Art of Energy virtual exhibition.

In response to our call, we received 152 submissions from across the UK and North America, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, Sweden, Austria, Greece, India, Italy, Belgium, Israel, Brazil, Iran, The Netherlands, Finland, Cameroon, Kenya, Poland, Madagascar, Spain, Denmark, Australia, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela and France.

We are delighted to announce that after a long and careful deliberation, the panel has selected the winners of the The Art of Energy – Call for Composers. They are:

  • Emma Arandjelovic, responding to artwork by to Katerina Evangelou
  • Tom Green, responding to artwork by Adam Sebire
  • Neil Tomas Smith, responding to artwork by Ted Leeming
  • Sarah Horick, responding to artwork by Natasha Awuku

Each of the four winning composers has been commissioned to create new work for a concert on Friday 19 November as part of Fringe of Gold – the University’s wind, brass and percussion festival. The concert will be in the McPherson Recital Room of the Laidlaw Music Centre.

Congratulations to our winners!
