SUMMARY:Painting in Steam
DESCRIPTION:How did the atmospheric pollution of steam-powered modernity shape visual perception and artworks in the early decades of the Industrial Revolution? How can we read artworks for both narrative and formal responses to climatic pollution? To what extent were the aesthetics of steam and pollution synonymous with the emergence of modern visual culture in nineteenth-century Britain?
